If you require kids to go to school by law, they shouldn’t have to pay for anything at all to be able to go there. They shouldn’t need to pay for food, books, a laptop, anything that the school gives you. If a child has to pay in any way to attend school, it’s a failure of our government to provide proper funding
This also includes transportation to and from school.
This should also include accessibility, aids and assistance for disabled children!
The worst part: You just know some deeply unpleasant person is reading this and concluding that the solution is to stop requiring kids go to school.
In high school one of the common fund raisers was carnation flowers for a dollar during prom season and valentines and a couple other times of year. And you could “order” flowers to be delivered to kids during their homeroom times so it was always a big deal to get flowers and it was super fun
But one of these fundraisers I had a guy friend who commented he never got any because he was always single or his girlfriend always expected flowers but never gave him any
So my senior year valentines I decided I was going to buy all the guys in my homeroom (which he was in) a carnation and said they were from “Anonymous Girl in your homeroom”
So the day came and all the guys started getting flowers and they all realized they were from the same one girl and all got super excited and giddy and protective of their flowers and all day long I saw the guys in my homeroom wear flowers behind their ears or stuffed in their notebooks and they flaunted them around to other guys that didn’t get flowers. One guy tried to see if it would make his girlfriend jealous. A couple of them tried to play detective to figure it out who it was.
Then the next day apparently they all (or at least most of them) got together and bought all the girls in homeroom a carnation as a thank you to whoever it was so every girl in my homeroom got a bouquet of one from every guy (so it was a bouquet of about a dozen) and every single girl was smiling and happy and bouncy as the guys were the day before
And no one ever knew it was me but I was always super proud of that
One simple act can have a ripple effect of kindness that grows as it spreads
the next big tumblr discourse is going to be that it’s problematic to make fun of anti vaxxers for some reason
potential ways this could go
“people, especially marginalized people, have EVERY RIGHT to be suspicious of the medical profession because of various human rights abuses” somehow warps into “if you criticize anti vaxxers you hate marginalized people and also who’s to say there ISN’T dangerous stuff in vaccines?”
making fun of anti-vaxxers is misogynistic because anti-vaxxerism often manifests itself in “mommy culture”
making fun of anti-vaxxers is ableist or classist or something because some people don’t have the resources to understand the complex list of ingredients in vaccines and it’s wrong to shame them for being suspicious of something that’s not accessible to them
woke conspiracy theory tumblr comes out with one of those “elites drinking children’s blog to stay young” style posts about how mmr vaccines are being used to sterilize people or keep them complacent or something
it’s problematic to give your babies vaccines because children are unable to consent to them (i’ve actually seen this one before on this hellsite lol)
suggesting CHEMICALS are safer at preventing disease than NATURAL REMEDIES like oranges or ginger is western-centric
telling people to vaccinate is telling people what to do with their bodies and that’s always wrong
